The Magyar Posta welcomes the Veszprem-Balaton 2023 Europa Cultural Capital program series with a stamp issue. The black-numbered perforated and red-numbered cut stamp blocks, along with the stamp miniature designed by graphic artist Lakatos Luca, were produced at the Penzjegynyomda Zrt. and will be available for purchase from August 2, 2023, at the first-day post offices, Filaposta, and can also be ordered from the Magyar Posta's online store. The Europa Cultural Capital title, proposed by Greek actress and cultural minister Melina Mercouri, is a significant element of EU cultural policy. Launched in Athens in 1985, the program has since gained increasing success. It highlights the shared nature of European culture, created through the collective efforts of different countries and cities, and promotes cultural activities in the awarded region, enhancing its image, boosting local creative industries, and increasing tourism. In 2023, alongside Veszprem-Balaton, Temesvr and Elefsina were named Europa Cultural Capitals. The VEB2023 EKF programs were developed around a comprehensive concept featuring 9 clusters, with the ZENE/VROS cluster chosen for the stamp blocks due to Veszprem's previous UNESCO City of Music title. The remaining 8 clusters are represented on the stamp miniature images: HIDAK, JV ID, TESZVESZPRM, L RGI, T-KRKP, RENDHAGY, NNEP, and TRKENY BALATON. The first-day cover (FDC) and its cancellation mark feature the VEB2023 EKF logo.
